MAS-ICNA West Regional Convention a Smashing Success

(LOS ANGELES, CA) - The Muslim American Society, in conjunction with the Islamic Circle of North America, held its first West Regional Conference in Los Angeles over the weekend.

Conference organizers called the conference a “smashing success”, as well over 1,500 area Muslims attended the event, the largest gathering in 2005 at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport convention site.

The convention reflected a wide "base of supporters" for MAS, including the participation of a sizeable number of American-born or -raised Muslims who served as convention volunteers performing various duties.

The program included lectures, workshops and talk shows. A number of audience members commented favorably on the quality of the presentations and presenters, the convention’s organization (with field trips arranged for children and the young), and the overall performance.

So inspiring was the event that among MAS members and supporters, some expressed their desire to respectively renew their commitment or to actively join MAS.  

Among topics presented in the convention were: Challenges & Opportunities Facing American Muslims; Muslims in America, A Building Block; Islam, A Comprehensive Way of Life; Muslims at the Crossroads: Isolated or Assimilated; The Shaping of the Muslim Personality; The Islamic Prescription for Social Ailments; The Muslim Family in North America, Empowering Our Community; The Fruits of Activism; and The Muslim Contribution to the New World Civilization, the Future of the Building Block.

Guest speakers included: Dr. Isam Omeish, Dr. Suhail Ghannouchi, Imam Siraj Wahaj, Imam Mahdi Bray, Dr. Jamal Badawi, Dr. Rida Bashir, Sr. Shahina Siddiqi, Dr. Sameera Ahmed, Dr. Zahid Bukhari, Dr. Muzzmil Siddiqi, Sheikh Yasser Fazaga, Sheikh Mohammed Faqih, Dr. Ahmed Sakr, Imam Saadullah Khan, Munir Qtaish, Shiekh Safwat Mursi, Shiekh Hamdi Sadiq, and Sheikh Othman Rakha.  

The convention also included exhibits from approximately 50 vendors and organizations.
